James Billington has worked as a professional vocalist, primarily in the South West of England for over 20 years! Most of this work has been within the swing and jazz genre, however he has also worked with other bands singing soul, Motown, funk, pop and rock music as well as a few professional ventures in musical theatre. In 2025, James joined the legendary Joey The Lips as one of their permanent vocalists.
In 2021, James' new UK tour of Magnificent Bublé premiered with multiple dates in the diary scheduled, visiting regional theatres up and down the country. The show featuring a 12 piece big band celebrates the music and the tours of the main man himself and is a fantastic night filled with over two hours of fabulous music.
Prior to joining Joey The Lips, James managed and fronted for 12 years the extremely popular Swing, Jazz & Party band, All Jazzed Up - a five to eight piece band which performs swing, soul, Motown and pop tunes all over the country for public and private events, as well as AJU's sister band Pocket Full of Groove.
As well as performing with Joey The Lips, James regularly performs with another professional band, The Drat Pack and also runs regular duo and trio gigs alongside pianists, guitarists and sax players. Additionally, James can be hired to perform on his own to professional backing tracks - perfect for pubs and social clubs, as well as private functions.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, James was busy recording material for a brand new musical in which he plays the leading role. Information about this show will be released in due course.
